Hi there! I’m Beth. I’ve lived in Jacksonville since 1997 but have loved this city my whole life. I grew up about an hour outside of town, in Lawtey, on 20 acres of fresh air and pine trees.
Growing up, I was always drawn to city life. In the early 2000s, I began to discover Downtown Jacksonville. Of course, I was already familiar with parts of town, as some of my family called Jax home for many years. But, as an adult, I began to really understand the draw of living in town and spending time Downtown.
This blog is my way of showing appreciation for what makes Downtown Jacksonville a wonderful, vibrant neighborhood, and I hope it will inspire others to visit and see the beauty that sits on the narrow banks of the St. Johns River.
So, why Bold New City 5.0? The city on the river has had five iterations as I see it: Cowford, Jacksonville, recovery from the Great Fire of 1901, Consolidation and post-Super Bowl. “Bold New City of the South” was the tagline adopted at Consolidation, and it’s my favorite nickname. I see Jacksonville once again ready to take a bold step forward into the 21st century to regain its place as a leader in the state and region.
